Renewable Energy Sector Policy Update

In the first eight months of 2025, the Vietnamese Government issued 10 new regulatory documents that collectively strengthen all five stages of the renewable energy investment process, particularly placing strong emphasis on the Government Planning and System Integration stages. These policies highlight the Government’s growing attention to strategic planning and grid integration, ensuring that renewable energy expansion aligns with national power security. Under a strong commitment to policy reform, a series of crucial power sector regulations have been approved, aiming to create a more transparent and efficient investment framework. Key highlights include the Adjusted Power Development Plan VIII (Revised PDP8), the announcement of a more ambitious national renewable energy goal, and the introduction of a new electricity price bracket to attract private capital. Together, these developments mark a significant step forward in improving Vietnam’s regulatory transparency, enhancing investor confidence, and creating a more safer environment for both domestic and international renewable power developers. Overall, 2025 marks a pivotal year for Vietnam’s renewable energy sector as government policy becomes increasingly proactive and investor-oriented.
